Hitachi Vantara’s cloud migration, modernization, and managed cloud services help organizations migrate and modernize workloads and applications to the cloud, while including expertise that helps meet security requirements and take advantage of the latest technologies. Hitachi Vantara commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study and examine the potential ROI enterprises may realize by including Hitachi Vantara cloud services as part of their application migration and modernization efforts.

The purpose of this study is to provide readers with a framework to evaluate the potential financial impact of Hitachi Vantara cloud services (previously known as REAN cloud services). Specific Hitachi Vantara cloud services covered in this study include cloud migration services, cloud application modernization services, and managed cloud services from Hitachi Vantara.

To better understand the benefits, costs, and risks associated with this investment, Forrester interviewed five midmarket and enterprise customers covering financial, insurance, communication, nonprofit, and government sectors. All have used Hitachi Vantara cloud services for a system migration, application migration, and/or modernization project, as well as some that have retained Hitachi Vantara for ongoing cloud solution management. Interviewed organizations reported faster cloud implementation with cloud migration services, reduced resource needs, and lowered cloud subscription costs with cloud application modernization services, and reduced ongoing management resource requirements and improved cloud service optimization with managed cloud services. Hitachi Vantara’s expertise, highlighted by their security acumen, cloud best practices, and automation tools such as Hitachi Vantara’s deployment accelerator, enabled these results.

To illustrate these benefits, Forrester consolidated interview results into a composite organization that has leveraged Hitachi Vantara’s migration, modernization, and managed cloud services to help move 10 business applications to a cloud infrastructure, looking at their investment and enabling benefits over a three-year period.

TEI Framework And Methodology

From the information provided in the interviews, Forrester has constructed a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) framework for those organizations considering implementing Hitachi Vantara application migration, modernization, and/or ongoing managed cloud services.

The objective of the framework is to identify the cost, benefit, flexibility, and risk factors that affect the investment decision. Forrester took a multistep approach to evaluate the impact that Hitachi Vantara cloud services can have on an organization:

  • DUE DILIGENCE
Interviewed Hitachi Vantara stakeholders and Forrester analysts to gather data relative to Hitachi Vantara cloud services.
  • CUSTOMER INTERVIEWS
Interviewed five organizations using one or more Hitachi Vantara cloud services to obtain data with respect to costs, benefits, and risks.
  • COMPOSITE ORGANIZATION
Designed a composite organization based on characteristics of the interviewed organizations.
  • FINANCIAL MODEL FRAMEWORK
Constructed a financial model representative of the interviews using the TEI methodology and risk-adjusted the financial model based on issues and concerns of the interviewed organizations.
  • CASE STUDY
Employed four fundamental elements of TEI in modeling the Hitachi Vantara cloud services’ impact: benefits, costs, flexibility, and risks. Given the increasing sophistication that enterprises have regarding ROI analyses related to IT investments, Forrester’s TEI methodology serves to provide a complete picture of the total economic impact of purchase decisions. Please see Appendix A for additional information on the TEI methodology.

Study conducted by Forrester Consulting shows 70% faster cloud migration

You can learn how those customers reported faster cloud implementation, reduced resource needs, lower cloud subscription costs with modernization services, and reduced ongoing management resource requirements – as well as numerous secondary business benefits.

Specifically, you can see how:

  • Several interviewees reported cloud migration projects were completed 6 to 11 months faster than expected, required fewer resources and with minimal or no impact on customers or users
  • A communications company can now address security or other issues with their cloud platform within a few hours, instead of 24-48 hours before
  • An insurance firm completed their move to the cloud more than 70% faster than expected and needed five fewer resources than planned for the implementation period.

For a composite organization based on interviewee results, the three-year ROI is 108%, with a payback period of nine months.
